Productivity Link Fodder
This DIY Planner is tres pretty and tres cool. I was actually in the middle of planning one myself.
Gosh I do love the idea of reducing and simplifying but if I can only moved from "liking it" to "doing it."
Ummm? YUM.
I linked to something similar to this a while ago but these Writers' Rooms are just fun to look at. I guess it's part of my productivity obsession (more with people who are than actually being so) in that I love to see the rooms where people do their work, the books surrounding all the people who write write write. Can you be a good writer without being surrounded by good books? Can you be a good writer without reading a lot of good books?
I am of the same opinion about the electronic organizing. While electronic can do so much for you, The Advantages of Keeping an Analog Work Journal speak to me.
As if I need another project with all the other ones I have in my brain but not started, but I like the idea of Digitize Your Attic and I might steal it's core and digitize everything paper related I have in those boxes scattered about the room. It's about time I actively used my scanner and put something new on guest.thisboyistoast.nu.
Something about this Your Blog, Your To-Do List Manager rings true with me. My major concern with ToDo Lists is visually they have to compell me to interact with them. Spreadsheet like lists make me gloss over the actual tasks. But I am already familiar with the webloggy format so... Could be an idea.
My favourite part of this article about Building a Smarter To-Do List is the follow-up links section called "Hand waving about lists and systems". Too much about being productive often becomes the evangelical nature of one system or another.
I remember once thinking at The Store that I would love to be more organized given the time and the tools. Even if I had come across the perfect paper-based (i had no PC at The Store) productivity tool, I would never be given the time to put it into place. Here, I can. And I should. Thus I am hunting a good ToDo lister, one that can handle sub-lists. First stop, 25 To Do Lists to Stay Productive.
What I like about this 20 Different Ways to Manage Your To Dos, is how it contains even the most basic like, "Fancy notebook with a fancy pen".
My list of personal things to do and projects is simply massive, some being useful and practical to some being pipe dreams. This Getting Things Started: The Brain Dump at Dethroner article takes all of that into account.
For the first time in a long time I will be doing a job that allows me the temptation to blog while I should be working. Oh I imagine there will be times when I can be blogging but the idea is to stay focused on the tasks at hand so we offer 18 Ways to Stay Focused at Work. (via the aforementioned jish)
Ask me about self-help, the kind of diatribe-y self-reflection and improvement written in books, and you will get me rolling my eyes. But for some reason I like the Discardian.
This little list of dealing with Overload and the interrupt-driven lifestyle just leads me to believe that people who rely on a list of coping mechanisms will become addicted to the gathering and attempted uses of these tricks, while not ever actually accomplishing the goals these tricks are created for. (via ed, a man all about productivity)
When I have to wipe my HDs I first burn a copy of my My Downloads dir. Then I write a list of software I had installed and do the reinstall. From the disk I usually have most and using the list I fill in a few more. But I always forget some. Ed's Keeping track of software trick is tres kewl for helping with this all.
I am obsessed with getting things done only because I never get anything done. Thus I am now obsessed with adding things done to my Ta-da List.
