"We do not allow liberal censorship of conservative facts." In other words, Conservapedia reserves the right to publish any material they think fits into the category no matter how inflammatory, one-sided, bigoted or oblivious of the facts. And when they are in doubt of something, they will quote the Christian bible, because we all know that is the final source of fact.
OK, I take it back. The US is not on it's way to a dystopian future like that portrayed in The Invisibles comic. They are already there.
LMAO !! This makes me giggle out loud. It seems some anti-racist clowns foiled a KKK rally. Now THIS is the way to take care of militant haters -- just laugh at them. (thanks jer)
I am making note of this post, Putting Canadian "Piracy" in Perspective - The Sources, and also noting the link to his short film. My ten second response to it is that the number of people taking advantage of piracy due to it just being easier (those people who never would have seen the movie in a theatre anyway) are actually being outstripped by the people fed up with sucky movies, terrible prices, draconic practices ("leave your cell phone, PDA, digital still camera and pride in this cardboard box please") and becoming the pirates & privateers. See Blork's fistfight as well.
Imagine this fictional scene. An american teenager has crossed the border into Quebec in order to have a weekend of fun, where they can drink at the age of 18 instead of 21. They are driving through Westmount not knowing they cannot turn right on a red. They do so and are pulled over for the minor traffic violation. Finding they are american, which is pretty obvious from the license plate, the Quebec cop decides to follow procedure and put them through the system. They are arrested, fingerprinted and jailed in a cell where nobody will talk to the teen in a language they understand. They don't have enough money to post bail and their parents aren't home. One failed phonecall, and the cop decides to be a prick and that is "fair access to a phone" and they are stuck. You never know, they might have outstanding warrants in Quebec. Paperwork takes a while, so a poor kid goes through a nightmare. Now, imagine the CNN coverage.
There is an issue of the comic Invisibles that features an american concentration camp. It does not seem so far off these days.
It's not too hard to envision going from the REAL ID act to trench coated men stopping fearful citizens on the street with the statement, "Papers please..."
I saw this mentioned a while ago but never saw the actual source page. I understand that most charities state symbolic actions in their drive to get funds. But the details on this page are extremely misleading. Why say, "Give a Water Buffalo," when you mean, "a contribution to the entire mission of Heifer International" ?? At this point my distrust of most charity agencies rises again. I remember talking to the board member of a well known charity and how they paid her quite a hefty salary for "administrative costs" when I felt that should go to the people in need instead of her already comfortable ass.
I am always fascinated where the Internet sends me. I went to Technorati seeking any popular blogs who might be talking about The Burning Crusade. I wandered by the "Top Blogs" and came across the link to Michelle Malkin's blog. Why was she popular? Because she was in Iraq supporting the troops? She's a strong right wing conservative. What does that mean in the US these days? Well after reading a bit, I see it still means being more about being alarmist and exclusive than it is about supporting your country. These people scare me.
Imagine this, you have a website that reviews TV shows and gets a little fame. You write a review for a crappy piece of teen drama that focuses on the empty heads of malibu beach bunnies. A couple of months later you see an episide of Law & Order: SVU and the nasty, over the top baby raper has the same name as you and happens to write for a website that reviews TV shows. You watch the credits, a little confused, and you see the name of the same telewriter who wrote that crappy Malibu show. Or better yet, how about a bad review of a Michael Crichton novel.
When I was 12 I had a length of chain spot-welded to my right wrist. The other boys were doing, older brothers and fathers running the spot welders, and the inevitable burn mark was a badge of honour. Once attached you could not remove the chain. Mine snapped off on a ski lift in Quebec as I exited the chair, a single link breaking and dropping it far below. In college there were those woven friendship bracelets, a copper-tin woven metal ring traded to a friend by a pickpocket in Nairobi, a couple of leather twists and the longest lasting ones -- the links used to hold shower curtains back wrapped multiply around my right wrist. I broke the last one months and months ago and even now my wrist feels naked. Perhaps this american gulag bracelet could be my next?
I want a Tshirt with multiple (all non english, one obviously arabic) languages all saying, "I sbould not have to change my Tshirt." I will not wear this Tshirt when I am travelling for The Store.
J is always asking whether or not the American public at large "gets" The Colbert Report, in that they understand that it is lampooning right wing America. I say no, and thus they asked Colbert to speak at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Guess who didn't get it?
I always knew the US had a Secret Plan to Invade Canada.
If enough people link to Jesus and Mo, do you think it will cause world wide havoc?
Oooo, an interesting infographic on american Death and Taxes. (via a spazsquatch)
Ahhhh man, if you are going to claim yourself President for Life at least have more than one national holiday named after yourself. (thanks joan for the politically informative giggle)
Hi, my name is Chuck U Farley and I have decided to annoy an american today.
I don't have any plans to enter the US any time soon but if I did they might read the title to this post (click the permalink) and decide that I must be banned from the US for having opinions they do not like. Oh yeah, Bush is a dick too.
I predict this image of Junior Bush asking Ms. Condi if he can go to the washroom will become a very photoshopped image very quickly, if it isn't already.
Gays responsible for Katrina !! Lesbians took down the twin towers !! Man, I better avoid my gay coworker who plays Halo 2; he could go off anytime.
The disaster in the american south has led to much looting and finding. the most interesting thing is the response in the comments.
It is a book about an ape brighter than most who teaches us about our own world. He is called Ishmael.
