Gaming Link Fodder
LMAO. I couldn't stop snickering at this video of Team Fortress 2 griefing, as in being a pain in the ass while playing.

If you play games, you end up with a lot of spare dice. What do you do with all those spare random number generators? How do you store them? Where do you buy them? How many to keep handy? Do you have any special sets (in terms of manufacture, sentimental value, luck, etc.)?”
So the The Second-Geekiest Open Question asks and I answer, "Well, duhhh, a dice bag." I suppose it could have been a dice chest. That would be slightly geekier than a bag.

As solo gaming is the only way I play these days, and Marmy and I are once again (as we ever are) resurrecting the latest game post-holiday, I thought this link to One-on One Gaming was worth a read.

Given that I had a hunnerd bucks to throw away, I would toss it at FigurePrints and get Marmy her Level 60 char.

Wondering how to Score a Wii This Christmas? Well in Canada, two places that always seem to have a couple in stock are Radio Shack / The Source and surprisingly... Shoppers Drug Mart, well at least the bigger ones with the digital camera centres.

Marmy and I are always looking for a non MMO game that we can do coop play, ala Diablo. This Silverfall seems a likely candidate.

"we do what we must, because we can. for the good of all us, except the ones who are dead." Arrrgh, I am humming the end credits song from a video game I haven't even played... yet.

This is freaking cool !! City 7: Toronto Conflict is a Half-Life 2 mod featuring some parts of downtown TO. ( thanks jer !)

Hmmm, interesting how no matter how much you might consider yourself a D&D geek, you could not know about David A. Hargrave. Me, that is. Me as in I didn't know about him, not me as in I Am Him. Anywayz, game maker and Game Master. ( brought via this post about a reallllly fun game, by way of Jeff)

I am the first to admit, that gaming geeks without or with a girlfriend are pretty pathetic. For example, Mistress Chief.

I like the idea behind Risus: The Anything RPG. It's rules light and can be based on any genre. In the ol argument between fluff and crunch, i prefer the fluff as it is about the world creation. And Risus has some damn fun worlds created by it's fans, Anachromerica and Dao Sheng for example.

LMAO. Jeff's Gameblog posts the shortest RPG rules of all time, where there is a 50% of failing and a 50% chance of succeeding. Imagine if real life was like that...

I really like the first of the two "believe" trailers that are making the TV rounds for Halo 3. Most people know my fondness for war movies and I must admit to having a softspot for the aging vetern thinking back image.

Ohhh, this is why all the gaming webcomics have the Master Chief pouring gunk onto his faceplate.

Remember the rumours about Peter Jackson directing a Halo movie? Well it seems that Weta did do some teaser mockups. *whine* I want mooooooore.

Hee !! Before I played my first MMO, I feared to try because I thought I might end up like the bunch in The Guild. Luckily, though I did play a lot, I never did truly become addicted. In fact, I got so bored with WoW that I should get around to cancelling the account.

I am playing Half Life 2: Episode 1 right now and I was marvelling at how many crates and barrels there are in the game.

While I love doing my own maps, this would be a fun campaign to design. Imagine a D&D world based on Planet Earth - Inversed.

This is just too cool. The original D&D was inspired by pseudo european style fantasy, of elves and dwarves and knights on horses. Imagine it was created using Greek Mythology and old Harryhausen movies as inspiration and you get M&M.

Everytime I see this Gamers vs Avatars article, it has changed slightly, with new people added and some gone away. This particular one seems to have an inordinate amount of people who (tried to) look like their character. I should do the same with some of my most recent chars. Even with my CoH account cancelled I am sure I have a few pics of TBIT and Bad Bad Boy around.

For those of you into those NaNuNaNu type writing projects, the one I have been watching is the WoAdWriMo or World Adventure Writing Month. The first successful creation is The-Maze-of-Cherno .

You know, I couldn't get into Guitar Hero, basically because if you missed notes the game sounded like a sqwawking tropical bird and ... well, i never wanted to be a classic rock god. But this little Jam Sessions game seems like it could be fun, and really does sound like playing a guitar. Then again, that sort of loses the point. Are we doing guitar sims or games?

There is a popular internet released free RPG system called Fudge. Someone decided to make a Pirate game using the system, thus creating Fudge Pirates. That doesn't quite sound like what it is actually about.

OK, so Sony killed a goat to promote Gods of War II (not really, they bought a dead goat from a butcher... article writer fabricates a good story) so does that mean we get to run over hookers to promote GTA4 or infect someone with a mutie-zombie virus (i am sure the US has some hanging around in Hanger 18) to promote a game tie-in to 28 Weeks Later? I sure hope so !! I want my carnage IRL not just in games!!

Last night we DLed and started playing the 10-Day Free Trial of Burning Crusade. Blood Elves are first up. No we are not buying it any time soon. No real need as of yet.

Whaa-hoo. It's not Halo 3, it's Haloid, a homemade (not to belittle it) video of Master Chief vs Another Game Icon. It also has anime lesbian overtones (grindy grindy grindy) and just for nood, some choreo.

Where was I during these days of playing Diablo II ?? I can remember running to the local gaming network store in NDG and getting the expansion and getting a little involved. This was the first game that Marmy and I played, co-op, together. Funny, how in playing WoW, I can no longer do the all night gaming session. Is the game play just not as captivating or am I just too old?

Yes, I admit the possibility that racing games cause crashes but only because I don't have a license and the only racing game I play is the Burnout series and purely because it makes crashing soooooo much fun. But do fantasy RPGs cause random dragon slayings? Do superhero games cause random flights of fancy? Do WWII shooters cause Nazi hunting? Does The Sims cause house building?

The guys who are making the previously mentioned game also did Rag Doll Kung Fu. It looks like a lotta fun and that's coming from a guy who has a "Kung Fu Friday Disciple" pin on his bag. But to be honest, I had not see many KungFu movies before or since the fateful fridays.

It looks like LittleBigPlanet is likely to be the next Katamari. Well, it could be for me. Very much so in that I will be playing it years after hearing about other people playing it and raving. Go me.

I would get this version of DDI for the xBox but I don't think the cats would like it.

Drunk kid on subway last night, "Man those are a lot of pins on that bag." I ignore him. "MAN THOSE ARE A LOT OF PINS ON THAT BAG !!" I ignore him. "I SAID, THOSE..." Drunk Kid's Drunk Buddy, "SHUT UP MAN, you're drunk !!" Yeah shut up or buy me more pins.

Kewl. It seems that Trent Reznor has an "alternate reality game" going on for the release of his new album. It's being tracked at this this discussion group. An ARG is a real world based game, previously seen in the marketing of Spielburg's A.I. that leaves hints on movie posters and websites and tshirts and whatever other media they can use to get your interest. Little clues are scattered about leading you hither and yon. This one sounds perfectly scary.

Kewl !! I gots me an invite to Dungeon Runners ! UPDATE: Bleah, it tanked on my machine. Even with the suggested lowest settings it looks like crap and barely runs. Obviously not made for Radeon video cards as of yet. It runs fine on Marmy's pooter but that's not the point, it it?

Man, everyone and their "don't read all of it" brother is freaking out because of this post at Engadget saying Jack Tretton wants to give you $1,200. They don't seem to play attention to the "in early january" part of the post. Yes, most stores have plenty of stock now but not in early January. Most stores now still don' t have Wii's.

Quite a while ago, the Count and I would play a flash based game of lil spaceships. It was massively multiplayer in that everyone was connected via the Internet. Here is a whole crapload of flash based internet multiplayer games. ( note: not for Firefox, poooooooo)

Great. It looks like the Alliance Party is back.

I imagine this Abortion and d20, for d20 Modern gaming, is a cheap ploy to draw attention to a gaming company? It's nice to know that at least one company is creating d20 Modern products, even if I won't be buying them.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this Wii Laptop was, "Can it be ported to a TV ?" Of course I am always self defeating.

ZOMG (pronounced, as if it's supposed to be said out loud, Zoh Mug Gawd) it's a Ghostbusters shooter !!

This interview with possibly the first Burning Crusader to reach level 70 outlines a different game from the one I play. I understand that most people are about mins & maxes and team PvP but really, can the game be mainly about that? Wouldn't that waste all the backstory they create for the game?

The closest I got to the new WoW expansion (this is the first, right?) was walking into FutureShop last night and seeing their haphazard display of everything WoW. So, instead of playing it I am reading other people
s experiences with it.

Even if the movie is canned, even if I need a new xBox 360 to play the latest edition, even if he was created as an anti-insurgent soldier, I still like the world of Master Chief and the Halo universe.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I play WoW.

Only a few people who know me well will know why I blew snot over the screen over finding this new City of Heroes emote. It was not what I thought it could be.

I don't play the game nor watch the show but for some reason I love these Aqua Teen Heroclix.

This might be the perfect game for me, a merging of MMO with single-player called Dungeon Runners.

Is it just me or does this trailer for Halo 3 (prepare for a long DL) remind me of the base story for Titan A.E. ?

I love how they mention, in this article about a possibility of Firefly returning as MMORPG, that it was like Cowboy Bebop, which is something I thought when I saw Bebop for the first time, "Man, Whedon must have really been influenced by this..." Jer, THIS is the next anime you should watch.

Everybody is blogging about the Wii. *blinks as point to post dissipates* Oh yeah, I have been wandering into Futureshop every Tuesday just to see if they have expanded their support of the two new systems, only to find empty shelves with nice PS3 and Wii clips. Yesterday I saw 4 boxes of the Wii and immediately thought to myself, "Ahhhh, so very quickly Nintendo deals with the demand and ships more..." Nope, they were just that -- boxes. Nice boxes though.

OK, now that F&F (fuckin' frenzy) is over at The Store, maybe my life can try and get back to some assemblance of normality. Maybe I can blog again. Anywayz, with the kids sitting out in front of the FutureShop the other morning (all night other morning) people at work asked me if I had already secured my PS3 and I laughed (like i have the money) because I knew it was really about the release of the Wii; that is where all the real hype is. Sorry Sony.

Yeah, I meant to link to these a little while ago but I was too giggly describing them to Marmy. They are Nintendo Controller Panties and all I can say is that it could help her practice her Konami Code. And I mean the Elizabethan Her, not Marmy, cuz Marmy doesn't play Nintendo.

This is about the fourth time I have wandered this way but today I signed up for Second Life. I think it's required of me considering my fascination with cyber life but to be honest, I am not sure what's all WOW about it.

I don't like platformer games very much and it's pretty much because I can far too easily toss myself into the game and get vertigo from scarily precarious edges. I am not afraid of heights just of edges. For example, the teaser for Limbo gets me gut queazy.

Finally, someone did Sex and D&D, for real. If you have kiddies in the room, take them away.

Sweeeet, lightspeed chronicles has a new design and still has quite the enviable job. ( P.S. ENTRY ONE THOUSAND since moving to MT)

I have always loved games with little buildings. Thus I have joined Travian, a browser based MMO game. TBIT is a Gaul.

A co-worker is often known to leave work early "saving hours" or attending "a family emergency" and returning the next day with a shade darker tan to his dome. He is golfing, it's accepted, he's probably networking. But imagine if he was going home to play WoW.

Part of playing City of Villains is interacting with your friends and other people via the pre-scripted animations called Emotes. Thanku very much Jer, for this Animated Emote Guide.

I had a surprise day off today (i always have sunday off but rarely sunday & monday) and I intended on getting some things done like mopping the floor and taking the duvets to the laundromat. I sat down at the pooter while the dishes were soaking and 5 hours later I noticed I was still playing Civilization IV. Zoinks.

Speaking of, this Serena Dawn Spaceport has a neat Ghost in the Shell d20 RPG, I guess being mostly constructed from details watching the show, as opposed to any official data.

Migawds, the video demonstrating Spore Gameplay is just astounding! Imagine a massively multiplayer (but not the way you think) where you can go from evolving a lifeform (multicellular) all the way up to running a multi-system starfaring race. This could easily replace WoW as a lifestyle. Warning, please set aside a half hour to watch it all.

In lieu of real conversation our lil group of freedom fighters often falls back on the same topics of conversation: old tv shows, transformers, CoH & CoV, movie/simpsons/family guy references, etc. One such topic is the design of a Blogging Collectible Card game. Now there is a possibility we could do it.
Blamb also does massively online gaming but in space, via Eve Online. This one sounds even more intriguing than others I have seen but it scares me, scares me in the way I have never been timesunk before.

It took me a while to wrap my head around monthly fees for a game. But spending $1000+ (real dollars) on a virtual island seems freaky.

Having recently acquired Civ4, I thought this Oasis game was intriguing; it is essentially Civ done highspeed.

Tom's relating of WoW progress just tells me the difference between such games and my CoH/CoV experience. No creation (what was the term you used Nood?) aspects exist in my game so it's all about leveling and power maximizing.

I always said that you shouldn't install the new Microsoft OS (xp, 98, whatever) until 6 months after it is released. And they know that; it's just not safe. So why would they release Halo 2 PC on Vista only ?

Heh heh heh, they are Katamari Hijinks. I could hear the sound effects of cats and people as he tried to roll them up.

Hey, not sure if you want to pay a monthly fee for a MMORPG or even buy a copy of Guild Wars (no monthly fee, just the cost of the box) ? Why not Play Anarchy Online for free ?

I could just post a bunch of the links found at Wonderland or I could just blog them... and add them to my permalinx.

Thee are people who will cringe at the subject matter for Darkon , a documentary on LARP (don't ask, google it), and there are people who will go, "KEWL !"

i know his 15 second of fame are now officially over when Jeopardy asks, " What is WoW?"

I don't know how enjoyable it would be but I cannot resist an RPG with a title like Kobolds Ate My Baby.

I just realized I don't really have a "i find this funny" category and considering 29 no-nos for gamers over age 30 made me snicker, I shall call it that. ( via you, geek, which I never get tired of saying)

Oh yeah, that gamer who gave me a pre-read of his adventure blogs at Texas BBQ Pit.

My current main CoH char is based on my blogging persona. My upcoming CoV char will be based on an evil version of my blogging self. Too bad the blog Burnt Toast is already taken.

I finished Katamari Damacy already?!?! Thank gawds there is so much re-playability. p.s. as i watched TV last night, I was guaging what size i would have to be in order to pick up elements of the set.

So last night we rented Katamari Damacy cuz the borrowed PS2 is still there. The rolling is neat but the music & story is truly genious.

Neat, it's a gaming magazine done like a magazine online. It's The Escapist and it's a better attempt at such than I have ever seen.

Farcry is one of those older games that my computer could probably handle and it's a neato looking FPS. But first I will read this webcomic.

I am taking two minutes out of staring at the floor to read and post. Today's is a handy software that makes Magic: The Gathering cards. Now if I only played M:tG. p.s. everything went swimmingly.

Remember text based games? No? You are too young but RPGs used to be "You walk into a room; there is an orc guarding a chest. There is a door to the north." Well, Urban Dead seems to take that to MMO gaming.

X-Play describes it as the MMORPG for people who still want a life. It's called Guild Wars and we now own it. But it cannot take away a life that isn't there to begin with. Look for Heironymous Walker, the Ranger.

Whew. I thought I considered heady ideas related to RPGing but nothing like the minds thinking about Theory 101 Pt. 1 & Pt. 2.

You know those pins/badges/buttons I usually have all over my shoulder bag? Someone has combined the popularity of these with collectible strategy games and created Button Men.
