travellers
What is more amusing than reading about the Travellers invading Lancaster University campus is the fact that the americans in the reading group (and probably some city bound UKers) have no idea what travellers are. I cannot say I know alot about them btu I know they are related in nature to the Gypsy / Romany people but not so much in race. There are travellers in north america and most recently, a TV show about them called The Riches started running of ShowCase here in Canada.

"Ya like dags?"
I learned about Travellers from my Scottish in-laws and, well, Wikipedia.
In the UK, Travellers are recognised as an ethnic minority of Irish origin, a kind of ethnic group within an ethnic group. Their dialect stretches back to Ireland's earliest inhabitant. In Ireland, oddly, they are not an ethnic minority but are referred to as a social minority.
Whenever Travellers enter a community, there are always complaints that crime increases, but that is, apparently, debatable.
The American branch of Travellers are descended from their Irish cousins.
And never call them "pikeys." It's racist.
The Riches is awesome show which touches on a lot of these themes.
