damaged
One of the reasons I’m happy to leave my current company is that the constant struggle to Do The Right Thing in the face of insurmountable political obstacles has left me in an exceedingly negative reactionary mindset.
I am hearing this kind of statement more and more these days and not just from my own mouth. This time it's Bill and that was about the job she would say no wrong about. Too many people are being left damaged because of their jobs. It used to be called burnout and people dealt with it via drugs & alcohol. Now we carry it around dealing with ulcers and a baggage load of negative feelings that affect the way we do our next job. Man, if companies can provide dental and eye coverage, what about mental health?

I am sure that's built into most healthcare plans, if not a separate wellness plan these days. No matter what I can say about my current employer, they do have access to free, confidential counselling..and even my short stint in retail when I was in Medicine Hat, they offered the same service.
Now, eye coverage is something we don't get. Too expensive for people that use computers all day every day.

the story at The Store was that this was available as well but in order to access it, you had to go to your store manager. and all communication would end up via him. if it was ABOUT him then you were shit out of luck. in other words, it was technically available but job suicide to use.

Mental health counselling does nothing to actually help with the causes of the problem in the workplace. If you are running headlong into a mountain of bad politic, policy and plain bad management, you are better off quitting and giving a detailed letter to Human Resources as to why.

I'm with Marmy, hence I'm leaving. :D
I don't want counselling, I want to remove myself from situations which require counselling. A job doesn't have to be something that one suffers through!
I would like to state for the record that my boss and my team and the other teams I worked with were all amazing people, just great human beings and fantastically talented; but it only takes a few overpowered and overprivileged people at the top to make your daily life a round of stress and to make real accomplishment impossible. I'm sad beyond words to see how much talent and hard work is being flushed down the toilet... gah.
Someone I work with said that I shouldn't quit because of poisonous people, because they are everywhere; I say that of course you should quit because of poisonous people, and if you find more like them at your next company you don't stay there either. I refuse to believe that all companies in existence give safe harbour to arrant bullies.
Well, there's a rant I couldn't post on my own site... :D
