I haven't blogged this topic in quite some time and I guess it's because I don't often read about books I might want to read. This time it's Nicholson Baker's A Box of Matches. I read The Fermata, which deals with stopping time and fondling women, in a completely adolescent & if-you-are-an-adult disturbing depiction.

"A Box of Matches" is good - I like most of Nicholson Baker's stuff, and especially his extended stream-of-consciousness internal dialogue-type thingies such as this one. I think my favourite of these is the tiny, perfect "Room Temperature", about the thoughts that pass through his mind as he sits cradling his infant daughter in a rocking chair. "The Mezzanine" is also enjoyable, for many of the same reasons.
